Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Thanksgiving??? Already?!?!??!?! Sheesh, where has the time gone. Ok well it’s nearly time to get that bird in the oven and start on the multitude of sides (including your family’s favorite, that no other family serves at their Thanksgiving feast.
Ok, but can we address tradition for a moment? Don’t get me wrong. I love tradition. I really do, promise. It’s just that I get so bored with the same old thing, year after year.
Let’s dig….erm…..dive into this matter a bit, shall we? I’ll first bring up one of my biggest pet peeves. Why do we call it Thanksgiving Dinner when most people eat between 2 and 4? I’m going to guess it is because cooking takes up most of the morning, people starve themselves at breakfast in anticipation of a big mean and folks will need time in the evening to digest the mass quantities of food they have ingested.
Ok, so why not actually prepare Thanksgiving dinner so that it’s ready….at dinner time? I’ve done this myself plenty of times. In the past when I have had guest over (usually 2 or 3) I’ve prepared a small turkey, maybe just two sides and of course dessert. My dinner was usually ready to go between 6 or 7pm. You know, “DINNER TIME”. But hey, If you like having your great feast at lunch, then by all means, please go for it.
Right, on to the next. Does it have to be Turkey? The answer to that is, “NO!” But this is not new to most people. There are lots of folks who prepare something other than Turkey and that’s ok. Ham is also popular, but, meh also not my favorite. I say (and most people would agree with me) make whatever main dish makes you happy. I’m down for a gigantic bowl of spaghetti and meatballs. Why not?
Now the last thing. I’ve literally wrote about this in my last blog, but I must ask, what is up with the pumpkin spice everything? Bleh, calm down with the pumpkin spice, people. The most disgusting thing I have ever put in my mouth was an Oreo cookie with pumpkin spice stuf (spelled with one “f” on the package). Sorry Nabisco, your regular Oreos are awesome, but you took it too far with the pumpkin middle.
No matter how you celebrate Thanksgiving, whether it is traditionally or otherwise) I hope yours is absolutely wonderful.
