Writing Inspiration
Aggravation to Motivation
Trying to shake your writer’s block? Well, I have recently discovered a little trick that has helped me get my fingers typing (or my pen scribbling). It’s kind of a fun exercise that should help you both with your writer’s block as well as your ability to overcome some bad feelings.
Here’s what I mean. I had a pretty aggravating day at work. Many people do. There is always someone with some kind of computer issue, or some of the laziest people in the office seem to always have an excuse to leave early. Sometimes venting to a co-worker becomes an olympic sport. Obsessions with what others are doing drag you into a frustrating whirlwind that seems impossible to escape from.
These are just a few of the events that really twang on my last nerve. Not to worry, this is all excellent fodder for when I just can’t seem to write. What do I do? I take all of those annoying little events and I create imaginary stories around them. For those annoying computer issues that arise while i’m at my busiest. I simply imagine the damn computers literally blowing up in flames before the second syllable of my name can be called out.
I do that sort of thing all of the time. That is, I imagine funny little outcomes for the very thing that annoy me. I make up much more interesting stories for why someone is late or has to leave early. Perhaps someone lost their keys down a manhole or the toilet flooded the house. I also try and look at the bright side of the very thing that annoys me. Lazy co-worker called out sick again? Excellent….at least you won’t have to deal with that person for the day
So, I simply create stories that turn my aggravation into motivation. That’s when I take pen to paper and start feverishly writing while laughing uncontrollably. Suddenly….POOF….writer’s block disappears and so does my bad mood
HAPPY IMAGINING!!!!
