Take a Moment
Take Yourself on a One Day Vacation
Yep, I am poor and I can’t afford any type of vacation. I can pretend, though. I can also get away from the usual scenery, although I have made quite a little sanctuary for myself in my apartment. Sanctuary or not, I get bored with the same old same old and I desperately want to get away.
Although I can’t seem to find the funds to get away on a real holiday, I have taken myself away. I don’t know how sad or desperate this may sound, but for about $150 bucks, I can usually find a very nice, local hotel to stay in for the night. Yep, you read correctly. I have absolutely found that just that small change of scenery is enough to make me feel refreshed and well, as if I’ve traveled to some far off destination.
Think about if for a moment. When you do spend time away on a real vacation, part of it is sleeping elsewhere. If you can’t afford all of a vacation, perhaps you can afford part of a vacation. That’s how I feel anyway.
It just so happens that at the moment, I can’t even afford to spend $150 dollars on a one night hotel stay. So what is a girl to do? Well, I’m waiting. I’m waiting for someone, who lives in a much nicer place than I do, to need me to house sit while they are away on vacation. Perhaps I could offer free cleaning services to someone for a weekend. I’m sure I can come up with some other way to spend the night in a much nicer place than my own.
If that doesn’t become available, I have one more trick up my sleeve. I take my mind on a mini vacation. I’ll rent a destination movie. Under the Tuscan Sun is one of my favorites, which is set in Italy. Another is French Kiss which is set in France. You get the idea.
Better yet, gather some friends, rent one of these types of movies and then set up a theme. Serve food, set up party decor that is destination inspired. Transport yourself to your place of choosing. Enjoy your trip!!!
